We do not treat every broken door as an emergency, because that would be dishonest and it would slow down the people who genuinely need us tonight. These four qualify:
Stop cycling it. Repeated attempts are what turn one broken component into four, and they are the difference between a spring bill and a spring-cable-track-opener bill.
Know when the red cord is safe. That handle on the trolley disconnects the opener so you can move the door by hand. It is the right move on a door that is fully open with intact springs. It is emphatically the wrong move if a spring has failed. Nothing is holding the door up, and releasing the trolley drops its full weight.
Ask us on the phone. If you are not sure which situation you have, describe it and we will talk you through it. We would far rather spend two minutes on that than have you find out the hard way.
Cold snaps. Springs snap in the first hard freeze, and they do it on the door's first cycle of the day, which is exactly when you were leaving for work. Frozen bottom seals rack doors off their tracks on the same mornings. Winter storms also cut power, stranding doors on openers without battery backup.
Storm season. A downslope windstorm or a hail cell can generate an evening's work across the region in twenty minutes. After a significant hail event, everyone in this trade is backed up. We will tell you honestly where you stand in the queue rather than promising a slot we cannot hold.
An emergency visit outside normal hours costs more than a scheduled one, and we will tell you the number on the phone before we come out. What we will not do is inflate parts prices because it is late or because a storm just went through, or invent additional problems while you are stressed. If the safe answer is to secure the door tonight and complete the repair in daylight for less, we will say so.
Call and say the door is stuck open, that gets priority. If the door is fully open and the springs are intact, the opener's red release cord lets you lower it by hand. If a spring is broken, do not release it; the door will drop under its own weight.
Yes, an after-hours visit costs more than a scheduled one, and we quote that number on the phone before dispatching. Parts are priced the same whatever the hour, and we do not raise parts prices after a storm.
Honestly, very. A major regional event books out every company here and manufacturers run long lead times on sections. We will tell you your real position in the queue.
Often yes, and sometimes it saves money. If the door can be safely closed and secured now with the full repair done in daylight, we will offer that.
